The Beach...

Where have you been?
Where have I been?
Busy with our lives..
While I have a moment, I'd like to share what I've been doing the last few nights. I do love the beach and the ocean greatly. It's played a huge part in my life, even though I highly dislike swimming in it past my knees!
Anyways.. here are necklaces that I have made, with shells I've collected in California, in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florida. The memories will always stay with me, but the shells?

Tortoises

So my tortoise enclosure has been vacant the last few months, but its time to release the beasts!

Ive put in a stone walkway where i can come from the outside and open their ramp so theu can freely walk in and out.

Ill be posting more as more happens lol

Okay so here is a small update, a few additions outside that I added, plants and flower seeds all perennials.  I can't wait for everything to start growing!
A gate that closes by itself thankfully! The hole in the door, I think they like that. Ive been outside working on gardening and stuff, and when im not around Ted peeks his head out looking for me. People say they arent smart.. and they arent all the time.. but they still are a being with their own thoughts.

Here is a picture of everything, just wish the plants would grow :3

Human Nature, just a quick update...

The candles have been doing well over the last couple days.. so thank you guys for that!! Even though most of you are family members, haha, we all gotta start somewhere I guess =]

So I am currently working on some sea shell stuff... I love the beach, all the sparkly sand and the shells.. I cannot stand swimming in it, but that just goes to show its human nature to fear the unknown. To date we have only discovered less than 5 % of the Oceans and Seas.

What's your Spaghetti Policy?

Today was eventful, I got some much needed things done with my animals and what not.. but lets talk about beeswax candles. There's a lot of information I didn't know about until recently.. but it all makes sense now.

Paraffin (which most candles are made out of) is made from the sludge at the bottom of barrels of crude oil, which is then treated and bleached with benzene and other chemical solvents to ‘clean it up’ for use in candles” and “the soot, smoke, and chemical residue from ‘regular’ candles can stick to walls, ceilings, and ventilation ducts and gets re-circulated whenever the heating/cooling system is in action, exposing you to these pollutants even when the paraffin candles aren’t burning.

So how does beeswax candles help you? when beeswax burns it gives off negatively charged ions. Static electricity? The little dust particals that float around in the air? They only float around because they are positively charged. When beeswax burns, and the negative ions counteract the positive ones, all the dust falls out of the air, its that simple.

Big wig companies that have commercial air cleaners use the same technology, just not with beeswax candles. The beeswax candles that we make have an extremely long burning time, for a 2 oz candle it lasts about 8 hours.. compared to a regular votive candle only lasting 2 hours tops? and a tea light candle only lasts for about an 30 minutes to a hour, where our tea lights last about 2 hours.. and then if you include the fragrances and the oils that are put into the candles, the aromatherapy qualities of the candles just make them perfect for relaxing and enjoying life, which is what being hippie is all about =] and I can do it and not be sneezing because of dust and animal dander all the time.

I am deathly allergic to cats, and dogs, and anything with fur.. (which is probably why I love my reptiles so much" and burning these candles, the cat inside the house doesnt even bother me, i can even sit on the same couch as the cat lays and not be burdened with a stuffy/runny/scratchy nose all night. I can enjoy my Always Sunny with a smile.

Okay, so now you guys know a little bit more about beeswax, now.. I know that candles are expensive.. Look at Yankee Candle... 27.99 dollars for one of those big ones, that are made out of paraffin wax?  ours is 27.00 and made from beeswax, that still smells awesome. Give us a break here, yeah yeah we don't have nearly as many fragrances, but stick with us and we will sooner than you know.

Anyways, I just looked up the actual definition of hippie.. and woah. I don't exactly like this one, I was under the impression that a hippie was just a person devoted to nature and peace and love for all? Even if some of them used hard drugs (nothing that grows from Nature's green earth is a drug.)

Look at this...

hip·pie
ˈhipē/
noun
  1. 1.
(especially in the 1960s) a person of unconventional appearance, typically having long hair and wearing beads, associated with a subculture involving a rejection of conventional values and the taking of hallucinogenic drugs.
    synonyms:flower childBohemianbeatnik, long-hair, free spiritnonconformist,dropout
"yesterday's hippies are today's ad execs"

Seriously? They werent all like that.. at least I'm not. I guess instead I should call myself a free spirit? Maybe that is better lol Just read an article about humanism.. that's pretty interesting as well, but another story another time I guess. Goodnight Folks.

Some hippie things....

I have toads. I like them, the spots and blobs all over them are great... The colors are dull and they always look grumpy, but on the inside I know they are chubby and happy. Look at this majestic brute, Ragnar.

He's just a toad. we let him out every summer and we house him for the winter. Silly, I know. But he's came back every year for the past few years. When it gets cold he hides under the hose reel and when we put the hose away we find him and house him lol

4 Toads, and 3 Frogs all live in the same tank. Its an ecosystem in there, a small one, with plant life, worms, "rain" and them. Everything we grow or make is eco friendly, all natural (as much as possible).

Vermicompost is the product or process of composting using various worms, usually red wigglerswhite worms, and other earthworms to create a heterogeneous mixture of decomposing vegetable or food waste, bedding materials, and vermicast. Vermicast, also called worm castings, worm humus or worm manure, is the end-product of the breakdown of organic matter by an earthworm. These castings have been shown to contain reduced levels of contaminants and a higher saturation of nutrients than do organic materials before vermicomposting.
Containing water-soluble nutrients, vermicompost is an excellent, nutrient-rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. This process of producing vermicompost is called vermicomposting.

We use red wigglers, which feed to Toads and our talapia fish we have for our aquaponics system which grows veggies and food for my tortoises. Our main man, Ted. Look at this beauty...

There goes his chubby little butt off into the sunset. I love my animals, they are awesome. They are odd and a lot of others just don't get it, nobody wants to talk about my tortoise picking on my husband because he is jealous. Only because they don't know much about them, and lets face it.. which adult feels like learning something new? But who am I to say that.

Anyways, back to the vermacomposting, we have no trash. What cannot be recycled gets thrown into a Rubbermaid container full of coco fiber composting material, and that generates amazing nutrients for plant life. Think of it this way, we grow what we eat, and what we don't gets decomposed back into plant food. If what you grow is grown from "good" things, what you eat is good.

Lets say your favorite thing to eat is pumpkin pie, home made from actual pumpkins... Put some vermacompost soil with the plant that grows those pie pumpkins, and you can eat as much pumpkin pie as you want because it was grown from "the good stuff" Right? Basically, but not with pumpkin pie lol (though that would be awesome.) If you put the good stuff on anything that comes from this earth, its going to produce amazing plants, fruits, veggies, berries, and flowers.

Its not just that simple, yeah that's the basic idea, but what do you put in the vermacompost? whats "allowed"? any veggies, fruit or fish, which is really all we eat. If you put fish in it though, it smells horrible, worse than it already does. (it only smells bad because of the decomposing plants, but it smells like fresh dirt mmm) Don't put hamburger helper and stuff like that, with all the dyes and bad stuff in there... its not good for the worms, which makes it bad for everything else.

vermacomposting yay!

Number One.

A blog by definition is a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style. Containing the writers own experiences, observations and opinions.

I don't feel necessary to inform others whats going on in my life, but to inform myself of my own observations and feelings. A lot of people do things without thinking, and I am one of them. Being spontaneous, obsessive, optimistic, naive and because of those traits within myself I am one of the most happiest people I know. Also, because of those traits I am one who is often overlooked by others. This blog isn't just out there for you guys to read, its out there because I need my own thoughts/feelings/experiences written down, saved, because nobody will remember my time spent like I will, and I am a very forgetful person. Even if I have no followers or anything, I'll still be documenting and promoting things I do, and the thoughts I believe.

If somebody along the line decides something I have to say is worth reading, then awesome. If not, that's awesome too. There's a lot to say, jot down, and write, but that's why this is a blog, its supposed to be continuous.

Enjoy =]
